Thanks to the generous contribution of the Boğaziçi University Foundation (BUVAKIF), the British Association for Islamic Studies (BRAIS) will be offering conference fee waivers to scholars from the Global South and to doctoral students whose papers have been accepted as part of the International Symposium.
Scholarships are limited and will be decided on a case-by-case basis. They are intended to support scholars from countries and institutions that reflect significant economic disadvantage . Applications will be assessed primarily on the basis of financial need, with the aim of awarding as many as possible.
Eligibility criteria for applicants:
Scholars must submit a brief cover letter outlining their work and explaining their reasons for applying.
Applicants facing economic constraints, systemic barriers to academic publishing, or limited institutional support are strongly encouraged to apply.Priority will be given to applicants based in low- and middle-income countries.
Doctoral student applicants must be in the second year or beyond of their PhD programme.
Doctoral student applicants must provide a formal statement of support from their supervisor. Applicants’ papers must have been formally accepted to the Symposium.
The application process is administered by the BRAIS Trustee Board, based at the University of Edinburgh.
The deadline for applications is 5:00 PM GMT on 30 November 2025. Late submissions will not be considered. Supervisors must submit their statements of support directly to BRAIS before the deadline. These should be sent to: Jaan.islam@bogazici.edu.tr
